Design a Book Cover and Win Stuff

Posted: May 6, 2011 in Competitions

It has come to our attention that amusingly-named young people’s literary website Inside A Dog is currently running a competition where you can win great stuff!  The competition basically involves designing a book cover for a yet-to-be-published book: something our students are notoriously great at.  We strongly encourage all our book-loving art stars to have a go and enter this competition.  Good luck!

From their website:

Design a Book Cover

Read the blurb below for a new teen book which is being released in Australia in September by Text Publishing.

Then draw, paint, photograph or use a design program and your graphic skills to design a cover.

Post your design as an image in the forum “Design a Book Cover” or email to our offices as a jpg at youthlit@slv.vic.gov.au by May 20th.

Unfortunately Text will not be able to use the winning design but they will send one lucky person a pack of new Text titles.

The Apothecary by Maile Meloy

It’s 1952 and the Scott family has just moved from Los Angeles to London. There, fourteen-year-old Janie meets a mysterious apothecary and becomes fascinated by his son, Benjamin Burrows—a boy who isn’t afraid to stand up to authority and who dreams of becoming a spy. When Benjamin’s father is kidnapped, Janie and Benjamin must uncover the secrets of the apothecary’s sacred book, the Pharmacopoeia, in order to find him, all while keeping those secrets out of the hands of Russian spies. Discovering transformative elixirs they never believed could exist, Janie and Benjamin embark on a dangerous race to save the apothecary and prevent impending nuclear disaster.
