Book Week will soon be upon us and we at the library are planning an exciting week of celebrations.  As part of our Book Week mayhem, we are going to host a Scrabble tournament in the library from Monday August 22nd to Thursday August 25th.  Sixteen teams of two will enter, but only one will emerge victorious!

To compete in the Scrabble tournament, you must be in a team of two people, so find a friend who is great at Scrabble and get them to team up with you!  You will need to be available to play a half-hour Scrabble game every lunchtime from Monday August 22nd to Thursday 25th.  If you are not available on one of the tournament days, your team mate will need to organize a replacement, or your team will forfeit the game.

If you would like to enter this epic contest of mental acuity and verbal jousting, there is a sign-up sheet at the front desk in the library.  Let the wordplay begin!

Hey everybody!  We originally ran this quiz last week, but due to an tragic and ill-timed technology fail we lost all the quiz entries!  So, we are going to run the quiz for another week.  If you have already entered, you will need to re-enter.  If you haven’t already entered, you now have a golden opportunity to compete for glorious prizes!

Once again it is that very special time of year when the school is filled with singing, dancing and weird outfits as our musical-theatre-loving superstars get ready to stage the annual school musical!  This year they are performing the classic The Boy Friend, and to celebrate in the lead-up to performance week, this week our library blog quiz is serving up a bunch of tricky questions about this musical.

The musical is on in the school hall on August 10th, 11th and 12th so you should definitely come along and see your fellow students being awesome.  Details are available on the school web site here.

COMPETITION CLOSED!  SEE ABOVE FOR WINNERS!

Biblioburro: Library Donkey

Posted: August 5, 2011 in General

Have we mentioned lately how much we love cool stuff from the internet?  Here is a YouTube clip about a Colombian guy who devised the ingenious idea of putting a library on a donkey ‘in an effort to bring books and the gift of reading to the children in his community’.  Luis Soriano Bohorquez, you are a total legend.

Student Reviews!

Posted: August 5, 2011 in Student reviews

This week we were delighted to receive some student book reviews.  Thanks Frida and Anthony!  We love to publish your reviews of books that you have read:  if you would like to submit a review you can do so by leaving one in the comments thread here.

The Count of Monte Cristo.
You’ve probably heard of it.
It’s really good.
But watch out for the (approximately) 6-page description of the innards of the Morcerf house.
Or read the Abridged version (nothing to do with the meaning of “Abridged” on the internet).
That is all.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets: A very mysterious book that encounters and reveals the past of Tom Riddle, where it is known as Voldemort now. With such clever connections J.K Rowling has used and created, I recommend this book to all! Have a good time reading :)
