Happy Summer!

Posted: December 2, 2011 in General

Today is the second day of summer!  Apparently yesterday, the first day of summer, was the coldest first day of summer in 15 years!  (We read that in the Herald Sun so we know it must be true.)

The beautiful weather and general feeling of optimism today has made us disinclined to post our usual hard-hitting pithy blog journalism… instead we have rounded up some cool vaguely summer-based stuff for you, our beloved readers, to enjoy.

Primo!  Over at excellent bibliophile internet haven GoodReads (which you really should check out anyway) some genius has assembled a list of books with the word ‘summer’ in the title.  Heaps of these look really good!

Secondly!  Our good friends and fellow lovers of the written word over at Readings have released their Summer Reading catalogue which is packed with delicious literary goodness.  They have also very kindly put it up on the internets here, where you can marvel at its glory.

And thirdly!  Sometimes when we are deciding what to blog about, we like to randomly Google image search whatever thoughts we are currently preoccupied with.  This is a fantastic way of generating new ideas and finding odd stuff!  Today we Google image searched ‘summer library amazingness’ and found the following:

Cool bookends! More here.

Tiny library! On a bookshelf! SQUEE!

Letters. The building blocks of books.

Bookshelf amazingness!

OH NO! It's a giant squid, or similar!

Tiny pencil carving alphabet.

Book cupcakes!

And finally, we leave you this week with some wise words from a wise man named Lemony Snicket:
“A good night’s sleep helps you perform well in school, and so if you are a student you should always get a good night’s sleep unless you have come to the good part of your book, and then you should stay up all night and let your schoolwork fall by the wayside.”
