Maurice Sendak Dies

Posted: May 11, 2012 in General

This week we received the sad news that genius children’s author Maurice Sendak had passed away at the age of 83.  Sendak wrote and illustrated many classic children’s books including what was probably his most famous work, Where The Wild Things Are, as well as the super creepy Outside Over There and our personal favourite, In The Night Kitchen (because who doesn’t love a book where the main character spends most of the time running around naked with a saucepan on his head?).

We are pretty sad about Maurice Sendak’s death, mostly because it means there will be no more books written by him ever, which is a pity.  But we are happy that he left us with such a great body of work as well as the following hilarious anecdote about his correspondence with a young fan:

Maurice Sendak was a hilarious, grumpy legend, and you should definitely read or re-read one of his books this week.  You can find lots of his work here in the school library!
