Inky Awards: Voting Now Open!

Posted: August 31, 2012 in Events

We have some great news for book lovers this week: it has come to our attention that the Inky Awards, hosted by our favourite YA book blog Inside A Dog, are upon us again!  The Inkys are international awards for young adult literature with an importance difference: winners are voted by young people themselves.  This makes the Inky Awards a great indication of what books are actually popular with the youth audience, rather than what adults would like teenagers to be reading.

There are two categories in the Inky awards: the Gold Inky for a book by an Australian author, and the Silver Inky for a book by an international author.  You can look at the short list and vote for your favourites right now!  Not only does voting give you the opportunity to have your say in a small piece of YA literary history, but when you vote you can go into the running to win a prize pack with copies of all ten shortlisted books.  So get voting now!  (For extra glory, leave us a comment and tell us which books you voted for!)

Read-In at the Library!

Posted: August 10, 2012 in Uncategorized

Greetings, book lovers!  As you may know, 2012 is the National Year of Reading: a special year in which libraries, bookstores and literature aficionados all around the nation celebrate literacy and the majestic awesomeness of the written word.  One very important part of the Australia-wide celbration of all things textual is The Reading Hour on Saturday August 25th, during which all over our vast nation people will be stopping to spend an hour immersed in the joy of reading.

The Reading Hour is fast approaching, and we here at super-secret library blog headquarters are hugely looking forward to it, as we look forward to any opportunity to spend an hour reading!  However, because the official Hour is taking place on a Saturday, we will be running an additional special event here at the school library during the preceding week as a kind of warm-up to Reading Hour.

The Great Read-In

What?  The school library is delighted to invite you to a very special event.  As part of our National Year of Reading celebrations, we will be holding a Read-In at the library during which students and staff are invited to come and share the joy of the written word.  For one glorious lunchtime, the library will be transformed into a reading-only zone.  No studying!  No chess!  Just wonderful reading!

When?  The Read-In will be held at lunchtime on Friday August 24th.  The Read-In will run for the whole of lunchtime and people are welcome to bring their lunch along.

What’s in it for me?  Well, apart from the pleasure of fifty minutes’ quiet communion with literature in the company of your peers, there will also be a small commemorative prize for each and every participant, be they student or teacher.
